Worst Fantasy Nightmare Ever

Kenny 9 cornered the market on Pittsburgh Pirate pitchers. They were there and they were cheap. I’m sure it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Until Monday, 4/26/10.

Zach Duke – 4 IP, 9 H, 8 ER, 4 BB
Octavio Dotel – 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 BB
Brendan Donnelly – 0.2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB

That’s a total of 5 IP, 15 H, 17 ER and 7 BB. That converts to an ERA of 30.60 and a WHIP of 4.40. For the record, he also had Evan Meek who threw 2 relatively uneventful innings.

Let’s do a little math. What does it take to balance out that ERA to a more normal 4.00?

That would take 33-1/3 innings of pitching without giving up an earned run. Or it would take 66-1/3 innings of pitching with an ERA of 2.00. Or 133 innings with an ERA of 3.00.

Or it would take 266 innings with an ERA of 3.50. That’s ¼ of the season, give or take. A month and a half of excellent pitching to make up for a horrible, horrible afternoon.

By the way, that's a picture of Zach Duke after autographing the ball for Kenny 9 that sent him reeling to play for next year.

Whew! There’s only one thing you can say to this:

“That’s a shame.”

Thank God for Kenny9's pitching staff or else this article might've been about mine.
