A Rough Game

Larry Dot Net had Madson go up against Dontrelle yesterday. It got a little ugly, not Bullinger-Trachsel ugly, but ugly enough to put the Pecklers in reach of the Falkuhns today.

The final score was 8-5, with all 13 runs charged to the two starting pitchers. Dontrelle was cruising, up 5-1 through 6 when it got ugly. Phily scored 4 in the 7th to tie it up on a waiver-wire list Shane Victorino (is anyone claiming him?) clearing the loaded bases with a single. Then in the 8th, Dontrelle gave up 3 more, including the last Pat Burrell homer for Any 9.

All said it was 12.2 IP, 13 ER, 16 Hits and 4 Walks. Fortunately, Bronson Arroyo had a complete game 4 hitter for the Falkuhns, or they would be looking up at us right now.

LDN tried to log in last night a little after 9 PM with this update, but Sue and I had shut off the phones for this week’s episode of 24. If Larry needs a partner for next season, it appears President Logan will have a lot of time on his hands by then.

I saw the Giants take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd last night, and then changed channels for a few minutes. When I came back to the game, it was 7-2. Wha’ happened? Wha’ happened was we learned that it wasn’t just the Colorado effect these past few years for Jamey Wright.

Meanwhile the Pickled Ones have moved into 8th place (barely) and are only 1 point behind the Falkuhns for the last money spot. Not bad for a team with 8.5 hitting points. There is good news: John Rodriguez got his 2nd straight start and with 2 more hits is now over .400 on the season. It’s got to be nice hitting in the 2 hole in front of Big Al. I saw that Big Al was 0 for 1 with 4 walks on Sunday. A sign of things to come?

I’m heading out to the day game with the Padres shortly. My nose is still really burned from last week’s game. I think I’ll try some goop this time, and maybe a hat. Woody Williams against Matt Morris today. It’s gorgeous out, and it could be a signal that balls will be flying.

Final note: Jonathan Broxton got called up by the Dodgers yesterday. He was taken one spot ahead of us in round 2 of the minor league draft. Closer of the Future?
